A scenic day trip to Mikumi National Park, one of Tanzania's most accessible wildlife destinations thanks to its open plains and short drive from Dar es Salaam or Morogoro. Game drive across the wide Mkata Floodplain — often compared to the Serengeti for its landscape — with strong sightings of elephants, lions, giraffes, zebra, buffalo, and hippos, all within a compact and relaxed safari experience.
Morning – Departure & Game Drive
Early pick-up and drive to Mikumi National Park. Enter the park and begin a game drive across the open Mkata Floodplain, keeping an eye out for elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and grazing herds of zebra and wildebeest.
Midday – Wildlife Viewing & Picnic Lunch
Continue exploring the park's central circuit, stopping at water pools known for hippos and crocodiles. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated spot within the park while watching for passing wildlife.
Afternoon – Further Game Viewing & Return
Afternoon game drive focused on predator sightings, particularly lions resting in the shade or on the plains. Later, depart Mikumi and drive back with scenic countryside views along the way.
