Ngorongoro Crater

One of the world’s most spectacular wildlife destinations, the Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its vast caldera hosts dense wildlife populations and offers breathtaking scenery, making it a must-see on any northern Tanzania safari.

Overview

The Ngorongoro Crater, part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, spans approximately 264 km². Formed from a collapsed volcano, it is the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera. The crater floor is a unique ecosystem with grasslands, swamps, and a soda lake, surrounded by high crater walls and scenic viewpoints.
