ITINERARY

A spectacular 8-day journey via the Lemosho Route—one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic and least crowded trails, offering excellent acclimatization and high summit success rates.

Trek Overview

The 8-Day Lemosho Route is considered one of the best and most scenic ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting from the remote western side, it provides a gradual ascent through pristine rainforest, the Shira Plateau, and high alpine desert zones.

The extra acclimatization day significantly increases summit success rates, making it ideal for trekkers who want a safer, slower, and more enjoyable climb to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Begin your journey through dense rainforest filled with wildlife and birds. A gentle hike leads you to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for overnight stay.

Day 2 — Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Ascend out of the forest into heath and moorland zones with expanding views of the Shira Plateau. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.

Day 3 — Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

A short acclimatization hike across the Shira Plateau with incredible views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s Kibo peak.

Day 4 — Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Climb to Lava Tower (4,600m) for acclimatization before descending into Barranco Valley for overnight stay.

Day 5 — Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Tackle the Barranco Wall before continuing through ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp, a key acclimatization stop.

Day 6 — Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Short but steep ascent to Barafu Base Camp. Rest early in preparation for the midnight summit push.

Day 7 — Acclimatization Day at Barafu Camp

Rest and prepare for summit night. Short walks around camp help acclimatization before the final ascent.

Day 8 — Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Gate

Begin summit attempt at midnight, reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m), then descend to Mweka Gate for certificate and transfer.
