This 7-day trek along the Lemosho Route on Mount Kilimanjaro offers extra time for your body to adapt to altitude, wanders through rainforest, moorland, alpine deserts, and culminates at the summit of Africa’s highest point. It’s a top choice for those seeking both challenge and experience.
Drive to Londorossi Gate, register, then trek through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa (“Big Tree”) Camp (≈2,650–2,800 m).
Ascend out of rainforest into moorland, cross the Shira Plateau, arriving at Shira 1 or Shira 2 Camp (≈3,500–3,900 m).
Move into alpine desert terrain, reach Lava Tower (~4,630 m) then descend to Barranco Camp (~3,950 m) for improved acclimatisation.
Shorter acclimatisation hike through Karanga Valley, overnight at Karanga Camp (~3,950 m).
Ascend to Barafu Hut (~4,600 m), your base camp for summit attempt.
Early-morning summit push to Uhuru Peak (~5,895 m), then descend to Mweka Camp (~3,100 m) for overnight.
Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate (~1,980 m), transfer back to hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
Transfers can be arranged between the airport, Arusha/Moshi, between hotels, restaurants and attractions, either on a seat-in-coach basis, or the private hire of an entire vehicle. All pick-up times are arranged to tie in with flight departures and scheduled tours. Our guides work to this timetable, collecting guests from each hotel en route to their intended destination.
