ITINERARY

Climb Mount Kilimanjaro via the famous Machame Route, known as the “Whiskey Route,” offering scenic trails, diverse landscapes, and a thrilling ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Trek Overview

The 6-Day Machame Route is one of the most popular and scenic ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a more challenging but rewarding trek with excellent acclimatization and high summit success rates.

The route passes through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit zones before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m). It is ideal for adventurous and physically fit climbers seeking a true mountain experience.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Begin your climb through lush rainforest filled with giant trees, birds, and monkeys. The trail is muddy but beautiful as you ascend gradually to Machame Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 — Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone with wide views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Shira Camp on the scenic Shira Plateau.

Day 3 — Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Valley. This “climb high, sleep low” day helps your body adjust to altitude.

Day 4 — Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Tackle the famous Barranco Wall before continuing through ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp, a key acclimatization stop before summit push.

Day 5 — Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

A short but steep climb takes you to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. Rest early and prepare for the midnight ascent.

Day 6 — Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Begin your summit push at midnight, reaching Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Celebrate at the Roof of Africa before descending to Mweka Camp.
