Climb Africa’s highest peak via the famous Marangu Route, known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” offering hut accommodation, scenic rainforest trails, and a gradual ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Trek Overview

The Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu Route offers a comfortable and well-structured path to the summit, featuring hut accommodation instead of camping. This 6-day itinerary includes an extra acclimatization day, improving summit success rates and allowing a more gradual ascent.

The trek passes through diverse landscapes—from rainforest to alpine desert—before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Ideal for first-time climbers, it combines convenience, steady pacing, and the rewarding experience of standing on the Roof of Africa.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Arrive at the Marangu Gate for registration before beginning your trek through the lush rainforest of Mount Kilimanjaro. This section is rich in birdlife and monkeys, offering a scenic and gentle introduction to the climb. Reach Mandara Hut for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 — Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Leave the forest behind as you ascend into moorland terrain with expansive views. The landscape opens up with giant lobelias and groundsels. Continue steadily to Horombo Hut, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 3 — Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Spend an extra day at Horombo to help your body adjust to the altitude. Take a short hike towards Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Ridge before returning to the hut for rest. This day significantly improves your chances of reaching the summit.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4 — Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Trek across the alpine desert zone with dramatic views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The air becomes thinner as you approach Kibo Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt. Rest early and prepare for the midnight climb.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5 — Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Begin your summit attempt around midnight, climbing slowly to Gilman’s Point and onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Kibo for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for overnight.

Day 6 — Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Descend through moorland and back into rainforest, arriving at Marangu Gate where you receive your summit certificates. Transfer back to your hotel, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
